Artist’s Note:
One day, on a quiet day off, I was sitting with a cup of coffee, relaxed, and flipping through an old photo album. Suddenly, I came across a photograph that took me back many years. As I began thinking about that time in my life, a painful memory surfaced. I became completely lost in it, reliving the emotions as if it were happening again. That memory affected me so deeply that I became physically ill for an entire week. I could hardly get out of bed. I lost not only that quiet day, but the whole week that followed. When I started to recover, my thoughts turned to Lot’s wife. God told her not to look back, and when she did, she became a pillar of salt. That story suddenly felt very personal. She looked back and became a pillar of salt; I looked back at a painful part of my past and became sick for a week. That connection inspired me to paint Chaos and Order. For me, this painting became a reminder not to keep turning back toward the painful places of my past. I cannot change what has happened, but I can choose where I place my eyes today. I choose to look forward, placing my hope in God and in the future He has before me.
