When I painted this piece, I kept thinking about the woman described in Revelation, seated on the beast.
In my mind, she became a symbol of power, almost a political power, something with influence over nations and the systems of this world. That is why I placed different symbols of power around her neck. To me, she appears almost like a ruler, beautiful and commanding, yet surrounded by something unsettling and much darker.
This image did not come from another painting or reference. It came entirely from my imagination. It is my own symbolic vision of what I felt while reading Revelation.
I didn’t want to explain every symbol. I wanted it to feel like a vision, something you look at and continue to question. My hope is that someone who has read Revelation will stand before this painting and recognize something of that same mystery, tension, and feeling that stayed with me.
