Behold is seen through the eye of a witness. I imagined someone standing there in the final moments of the crucifixion, watching Jesus on the cross. We do not see the witness. We see only the eye and within it the reflection of what that person is witnessing. For me, this painting is about that moment when you cannot look away. You are not simply hearing the story of the crucifixion. You are there. You are seeing it with your own eyes. That is why I called it Behold. To behold is more than to look. It is to stop, to see, and to truly take in what is before you.
